Special Olympics Great Britain is inviting Brits to take on the most extreme sub-zero challenge that the nation has ever seen. Taking the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ to the next level, thousands of brave plungers are being encouraged to sign up and submerge themselves in 20 tons of freezing ice-filled water, to raise money for the vital work of Special Olympics GB that supports 8,000 athletes across the UK.

Already a stateside sensation, the flagship UK Polar Plunge will take place in the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th February 2015. A bespoke arctic open-air pool has been specially constructed for the Polar Plunge, and Special Olympics Great Britain are hoping to recruit thousands of potential plungers to adorn fancy dress and take on the iciest challenge yet.

Mini-plungers can also join in the fun with an indoor paddling pool open to under-12s, and spectators and supporters will be encouraged to cheer on the adventurous challengers as they enjoy live entertainment and musical performances on site.

The Polar Plunge is crossing the Atlantic for its debut on UK shores to raise crucial funds for Special Olympics Great Britain, which is recognised as the third member of the Olympic Family by the International Olympic Committee. Special Olympics GB offers inclusive sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities via almost 150 volunteer-led local clubs. The money raised will support these clubs to nurture talent and transform the lives of its athletes.
