Solo exhibition by artist Aleksandar Basic. 'The Origin of the World' is a collection of figurative-abstract works inspired with realistic figurative artworks of Gustave Courbet and the semi abstract style of Paul Cézanne.

Although Aleksandar Basic's geometrical and highly evocative artworks may appear to be abstract, the artist himself is invariably concerned with the figurative. For him, the idea arises out of the process of connecting simple shapes, lines and subtle colours. He works with ink and sometimes uses material, consciously and subconsciously preserving symbols and rejecting realism. To fully reject realism is not the aim for the artist as he likes rather to preserve recognisable elements or symbols (text) which will allow the viewer to stay alert and study the work.

This Aleksandar Basic's exhibition presents a collection of his works over period of three years. Earlier works helped in the process of creation and preparation, for this reason they are on the smaller scale. Later works, tough more structured and detailed, often with added elements of collage (cut-outs), human hair and spray paint are on the large size. Even with the modest scale of Aleksandar's works he manages to create intrigue with a figure and that tantalising pleasure of seeking out the figurative elements- which has hinted to thrill viewers.

This exhibition will include current and past work from the artists at Paul McPherson Gallery, 77 Lassell Street, Greenwich, London SE10 9PJ. The gallery is placed near the historic World Heritage Site, just 600 meters after the National Maritime Museum. Nearest station if travelling from London Bridge: Maze Hill or a bit further DLR Cutty Sark.

"I am interested in all areas of art and design, although I am mostly using oils, I constantly experiment with different styles and media. My motifs are people, objects and places that have left impressions on me. I find inspiration in existentialism, impressionism, cubism and most of the other isms."

"When creating artwork, I am not thinking about the style but rather what I want to achieve. I am interested in “how things work” and I investigate this in different aspects of form, shape, light, colour and material."
