Born out of a real passion for jazz and world music USONiC is a fascinating jazz fusion band formed by the highly experienced and talented duo of percussionist/drummer Miles Bould and bass player Scott Firth. Collectively they have worked with a who's who of artists including James Brown, Michael Jackson, Sting, Robert Palmer, Tina Turner, Ray Charles and Billy Ocean. The band’s musical influences encompass a diverse mixture of styles and sounds, with the core ideas coming from the fusion of music from Africa, South Asia and South America, providing a platform that combines experimentation and improvisation with an eclectic creative approach. To date the group has released two highly praised albums, "Evolution" which received a MOBO Award nomination for Best Jazz Act 2010, demonstrating the extremely high calibre of musicianship the band displays. Their equally impressive 2012 effort, "Diversion", was described as "a fresh, exciting, sharp and sassy chunk of classy modern jazz" by Blues and Soul magazine. The band tonight includes previous collaborators on the aforementioned albums, all of whom are impressive bandleaders in their own right, with the outstanding Nigel Hitchock on sax, Mike Outram on guitar, Sarah Ozelle on vocals and second keys and Mike Gorman completing the line up on keyboard. Scott describes the performance tonight to be a mixture of "Weather Report meets Steps Ahead meets Tribal Tech". With all this talent on show this promises to be a very special gig indeed. Highly recommended.
