Anna Betbeze: Plush Vision

Luxembourg & Dayan presents the first UK solo exhibition of Anna Betbeze. The young American artist will be showing a series of new works all made in the backyard of her childhood home in rural Georgia especially to be shown in the Mayfair gallery. Betbeze has forged a reputation for radical experimentation and uncommon materiality, eschewing the canvas in favour of handmade Greek rugs known as 'flokati'. Submitting their shaggy woollen expanses to a host of degradations — scorching them with hot coals, dying them with inks, washing them and slashing them with razor blades before possibly scorching them anew — Betbeze creates meta-painterly abstractions fraught with experience.
