Picture yourself as a bartender, sipping top-shelf whiskey and watching your customers descend into nightly oblivion. Your heart is broken by the world around you and, leaving the whiskey aside, you hatch a devious, unthinkable plan of escape...

Returning from its sell-out run at Edinburgh Festival 2014, award-winning FellSwoop Theatre present Ablutions - a dark, modern drama, adapted from the novel by Man Booker shortlisted author, Patrick deWitt (The Sisters Brothers). A grimly funny tale from the sodden depths of the Los Angeles underworld, Ablutions blends a live soundtrack with detailed mime and deWitt’s heart wrenching humour. It is a beautifully sleazy tale of personal decay and domestic despair… (The Skinny)

Ablutions is certainly worth your time, a possessed carousel of characters and noise that scores a deep impression through its intelligent stagecraft and relentless despair (A Younger Theatre).
Patrick DeWitt, described FellSwoop’s adaptation as an imaginative and thoughtful group of artists who have worked wonders.

FellSwoop Theatre’s previous show, Belleville Rendez-vous (an adaptation of Slyvain Chomet’s animation film), won the NSDF Emerging Artists Award 2011 and was critically acclaimed nationwide on its sell-out tour. Ablutions is commissioned by Bristol Old Vic Ferment, supported by Arts Council England and is Winner of the Critic's Choice Award at Ignite Theatre Festival. It is directed by Bertrand Lesca who recently assisted Peter Brook (A Magic Flute – World Tour) and Declan Donellan (‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore, Ubu Roi – World Tour).

Ablutions plays at Soho Theatre as part of a UK tour.
