In her ambitious new exhibition named i18n, British-Chinese artist Aowen Jin will turn the entire Music Gallery of the Horniman Museum into an artwork, painting on the walls and on the floor - all in ink that's only visible under UV light. The viewer must explore the museum with UV torches to actively search for a magical world filled with mythical Chinese stories, challenging the way that the contemporary art audience passively views art.

The work creates a direct connection between traditional art and modern technology - i18n is tech shorthand for internationalization, the means with which cultures can communicate using technology. This is especially relevant to the museum, which is based on a vast Victorian era collection created by tea trader Frederick John Horniman - a man on the cusp of early globalisation.

The work will remain in the museum permanently - like a hidden Sistine Chapel - but will premiere as part of a Chinese Lates event on the 26th at 6:30pm.
