Ovation: Ben Frost AURORA with MFO, Laurel Halo, Jacques Gaspard Biberkopf

For our April Ovation, we welcome Australia-born, Iceland-based experimental composer and multi-instrumentalist Ben Frost for his A U R O R A show with visual artist MFO. First debuted at Poland's Unsound Festival in 2014, this new show focuses on light, one of the permeating themes of Frost's most recent LP, A U R O R A. Far more than just a VJ set, MFO's performance sits at the forefront of hijacked digital technology, following Frost’s mandate is that it should 'feel like being inside a particle accelerator'.

An inimitable and forward-thinking artist of his time, his albums, including Theory of Machines (2007), BY THE THROAT (2009) and A U R O R A (2014) fuse intensely structured sound art with militant post-classical electronic music, shape-shifting physical power with immersive melody, concentrated minimalism with fierce, rupturing metal.

Also confirmed are Hyperdub's Laurel Halo and Jacques Gaspard Biberkopf. Responsible for releasing one of 2013's best electronica albums, Chance of Rain, Berlin based Halo is a firm Oval Space favourite thanks to her her cerebral and emotive approach to production and DJing. Lithuanian born, Berlin-based Jacques Gaspard Biberkopf appeared on our radar recently, leading us on a treasure hunt of avant-garde mixes around the web that juxtapose and deconstruct genres as ranging as instrumental grime to industrial techno.
