Learn basic contemporary calligraphy techniques and create your own Bookplate in this quick introductory session.

Bookplates are traditionally small printed or decorative labels, pasted into the front of a book. Each is designed with a unique motto, crest, coat of arms or badge, to indicate the particular interest or passion of its owner.

Whether it's Harry Potter, 50 Shades, or Wolf Hall, this short introduction to calligraphy will give you the tools to start designing your own Bookplate style. You’ll use a dip ink pen, learning basic letter formation and then use your new skills to design a Bookplate to use in your most treasured books.

The session will run for 2.5 hours with a 15 min break. Refreshments will be provided to keep your creative juices flowing.

Taught by Rebecca Cahill Roots, stationery designer and Creative Director of Betty Etiquette, these courses are fun and accessible introductory sessions that will help you find your own creative style. We keep group sizes small to guarantee one-on-one support while you learn your new craft. It doesn't matter whether you're a budding Picasso, a complete beginner or feel you don't have a creative bone in your body - we promise you'll have a great time and leave with some examples of your handy work.

All equipment will be provided so you don't need to bring anything with you, but you might want to bring your favourite book for some inspiration. The cost of the session includes some drinks and nibbles to keep your creative juices flowing. Make sure you have sleeves on that you can roll back.
