Celebrating Lambeth’s musical youth with 3000 performers from Southbank Centre’s home borough, the Lambeth Festival is back again with a whole week of concerts.

Taking place across Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Infant and Junior Singing Concerts will kick off the week’s performances on Monday 23 March at 1.30pm and 5.30pm, featuring an incredible 1800 school children in the Royal Festival Hall, following weeks of rehearsing the Festival songs in their own schools.

The Lambeth Music Festival is a free festival open to the public and is the flagship annual event produced by Lambeth Music Service in partnership with Lambeth Music Network, Southbank Centre and resource management specialists Veolia. The Festival will showcase the musical talent of children aged 5 to 18 from over 50 schools and Lambeth Music Network partner organisations with orchestras, contemporary ensembles and choirs.

Oliver Bayley, Festival Producer and lead tutor for events at Lambeth Music Service said “What an amazing privilege to perform at one of the most iconic venues in the world. The co-ordination of the Lambeth Music Festival is no mean feat, but worth it when you see how proud children, parents and staff are once they have performed. We are looking forward to another great festival week”.

Lambeth Music Service has a specialist team of over 70 experienced music teachers who are committed to providing musical excellence and access for all, both during the week and on Saturdays. The LMS offers a variety of services to schools and families, including the highly rated Musitrax programme which assists schools to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum and National Plan for Music Education.

Robert Seear, Veolia’s Regional Manager for South London, said: “As a company that prides itself on the integral role we play within communities, especially within Lambeth where we provide a host of vital services, we are delighted to support this wonderful event that showcases the talents of so many local children. As part of our involvement with the Festival we will be promoting recycling and sustainable living within Lambeth, using this event as an opportunity to provide information and encourage children, their parents and all visitors to the Festival to think greener.”

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: 'I am a passionate supporter of music education and giving talented youngsters the opportunity to play live as well to learn their craft. The Lambeth Music Festival is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians and singers to perform at one of the finest arts centres in the world and I wish them every success whether they go on to pursue a professional career, or simply want to carry on for
pleasure.'
