Give a Damn Dating, a social enterprise that brings 'socially conscious' single people together for fun, interesting and curious events, is holding their first in a series of Give a Damn documentaries, with the screening of the award-winning documentary, Powerless.

What happens when the lights go out? According to the World Bank over 1.2 billion people are without access to electricity worldwide, most of them in Africa and Asia. In India, one of the world’s fastest developing economies a third of the population is bereft of this basic need and the rest grapple with power-cuts that dictate their own terms.

Whilst many in the Western world are searching for new ways to slow down their relationship with technology to prevent burn out , in Kanpur, India, where frequent power cuts can last up to 15 hours, the story is very different. The award winning documentary Powerless tells Loha's story - a robin-hood figure who steals electricity and charges the rich to provide free connections in impoverished neighbourhoods. However, as the city develops the new chief of Kanpur Electricity Supply Company wants to clean up the city and is working on a mission to eliminate both powerlessness and electricity-theft...

Join Give A Damn Dating for their first documentary screening and find someone with whom you can delve into gritty conversations that matter.
