“This probably won’t be the last wedding where you feature as the bride…”

Beautiful, fierce and deadly, Hallgerd is not a woman to be taken lightly – getting through husbands like a falcon ripping through its prey. But this time she might have met her match…

Darkly comic and tragically romantic by turn, Katy Cawkwell unravels a wild Icelandic saga. In this land of ice and fire a passionate queen curses an ex-lover half her age, with at first poignant, then devastating consequences.

This is epic in a cold climate…

‘Superb, magical, enthralling.’
Ilkley Literature Festival

KATY CAWKWELL is well-known for unravelling complex narratives into compelling, glittering stories that linger in the mind long after they are told. Her introduction to storytelling came from seeing the Company of Storytellers as a teenager and started telling whilst studying Classics at Oxford. A master of stunning composition, Katy has developed a repertoire of clear and powerful storytelling performances, drawing particularly on British and Norse traditions. She has performed in venues right across Britain, from telling a tale of Loki in a burial chamber on Anglesey, to condensing Wagner’s entire Ring Cycle to 20 minutes at the Barbican!
