Couperin - Leçons des ténèbres
Originally presented in a Parisian abbey by the operatic stars of the day, Couperin’s Leçons des ténèbres (Lessons from Tenebrae) fused the dramatic and the devotional. Wild and emotive biblical texts mingled with sumptuous harmonies, while the abbey was gradually submerged into darkness. In this late-evening performance Associate Artists La Nuova Musica are joined by renowned sopranos Lucy Crowe and Elizabeth Watts for a sensitive and intimate performance in a candlelit Village Underground.
“If anyone can be relied on to make baroque music sound newly hatched, it’s the aptly named ensemble La Nuova Musica.”
