A collection of 17th-century English ballads
Ballads were the popular songs of the 17th century. Printed on one sheet and sold for a penny in marketplaces, they told tales of murder, sex, revenge, true love and the supernatural to familiar (and often recycled) melodies. The Carnival Band brings to life a colourful cast of characters through some of the most imaginative and memorable songs and dance tunes of the age.
