Anne Musso, artist resident of Notting Hill since 1985, is preparing for her latest show which will take place at Freud Café, in Covent Garden, from 29th March - 26th April. The exhibition is free and open daily from 2 - 11pm.

French-born Musso has worked with clay and paint since the age of 15 when she had a workshop in her parents’ attic. Initially specialising in ceramics, she maintained a successful studio at Great Western Studios until 2008.

A major influence on her was the late Dame Lucie Rie, whom Musso got to know and was mentored by. Musso's ceramic creations have been featured in design publications and boutiques such as Bloom, Mint and Joseph.

When Great Western was closed, Musso moved into a new area of creativity. Recently, she has been creating bespoke jewellery pieces, in gold and silver with semi-precious stones. Her most exciting venture, however, is into the graphic arts, which Musso is sharing with us at Freud’s. From a wide array of prints, linocuts, drypoint, collagraphs, paintings and drawings, a family of pieces have been picked out. An overview of her work can be found here.

Musso has had many group and solo exhibitions over the years, including at the Bartley Drey Gallery, the Ice House in Holland Park (solo 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2014), the Orangery in Holland Park, the Salon des Arts (solo 2006), Burgh House with the Nine Lives Collective (2014), not to mention exhibitions in the South of France, Paris and Reunion Island (2009, 2015). Her last solo exhibition at the Ice House in the summer of 2014, “Made in London”, paid homage to the natural and urban environment of Notting Hill.

In this newest collection on show at Freud’s, we discover Musso’s fascination with the urban landscape that is London. She combines an exploration of natural themes from the glory of London’s parks, including her personal attachment to Holland Park, with the dynamism and vivacity of the Capital’s streets. Her abstract world is reminiscent of pieces by Paul Klee, Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Pohlke.

After several group exhibitions, Freud's is her first solo prints and paintings show. Enjoy Musso’s abstract London landscape with one of the bar’s legendary cocktails, in the secret hideaway under the pavements of Covent Garden.
