Jean, an army deserter, and Nelly, a 17 year old chick, are doomed lovers on the run in fogbound Le Havre who desperately try to slip away from a dangerous triangle. Marcel Carné and Jacques Prévert fuse superbly pre-war French poetic realism with the ingredients that would become integral post-war film noir.
