RACHAEL COHEN This talented young Scottish saxophonist is already starting to make waves on the UK Jazz scene. As a star member of both the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland and Tommy Smith’s Youth Jazz Orchestra, she played alongside great British and international artists before going to the Jazz Studies course at The Birmingham Conservatoire in 2006. On leaving the Conservatoire Rachael immersed herself in the UK’s vast creative music landscape, composing for and performing with local ensembles as well as her own, and in 2010 she received the prestigious “Stepping Up” Birmingham Jazz Grant Award. Now signed to highly-regarded jazz label Whirlwind Recordings, she recently released her first CD “Halftime” which received four stars from both Jazzwise and MOJO magazines. A highly talented musician who is sure to feature heavily in years to come, this gig is simply not to be missed.
