Award winning drama company Southside present Lillian Hellman's The Children's Hour.

Written in 1934, then banned in America and London due to its daring theme, The Children’s Hour tragically portrays the downfall of two school teachers when one of their students starts a rumour that they are having a lesbian affair.

This intense drama – which was recently revived in the West End with Keira Knightley and Elizabeth Moss – explores the power children can have in the claustrophobic and charged environment of a boarding school.

The Children’s Hour is a combative play that continues to challenge the morals of society today, and is played by an almost exclusively female cast.

Lillian Hellman wrote The Children's Hour when she was only 29, and became one of the most famous American women writers of the 20th century, along with her other success, The Little Foxes. The play ran for more than two years when it was first produced on Broadway.
