Bill Browder, once the largest foreign investor in Russia, in conversation with former diplomat Sir Rodric Braithwaite, who from 1988 to 1992 was ambassador to Moscow.
Bill Browder was the largest foreign investor in Russia until 2005, when he was denied entry to the country after exposing widespread corruption. Since 2009, when his lawyer Sergei Magnitsky was murdered in Russian police custody, the one-time financier has been leading a global campaign to expose human rights abuses endemic in Russia. His book 'Red Notice' is a searing exposé of the wholesale whitewash by Russian authorities of the imprisonment and murder which has not been investigated and remains unpunished to this day. 'Red Notice' is a compelling book that grows progressively more chilling, culminating in this passage towards the end: "I have to assume that there is a very real chance that Putin or members of his regime will have me killed some day. Like anyone else, I have no death wish and I have no intention of letting them kill me.
"I can't mention most of the countermeasures I take, but I will mention one: this book. If I'm killed, you will know who did it." Bill Browder will be talking about the experiences behind this book to former diplomat Sir Rodric Braithwaite. As both have considerable, firsthand experience of Russia, this is sure to an insightful and absorbing event.
