Returning by popular demand, 'the Queen of Swing', Clare Teal, with her seven-piece band, interprets songs from the 20th century's great female jazz singers.
Returning by popular demand, 'the Queen of Swing', Clare Teal has a string of album successes and a fan base broadened by her regular Radio 2 slot at 9 pm on Sundays. With her seven-piece band she interprets a range of songs from the 20th century's great female jazz singers.
Growing up in a tiny village near Skipton in Yorkshire, England, a young Clare Teal was unlike many other teens of 1980s, and spent her time listening to her Nan's 78s 'I was obsessed with the singers of the 30s, the 40s and 50s,' she says. One of Clare's first jobs was writing jingles 'I'd write these jingles, and then sing them in the manner of Julie Andrews, Madonna, my old favourite Billie Holiday and, well, anybody, really,' she recalls. 'They were singing telegrams, effectively, and it was actually a lot of fun.'
As a live artist, Clare has performed across the length and breadth of the UK and across the globe. Her shows are renowned not only for her stunning vocals and great song choices, but also because she has deservedly developed a reputation as an entertaining and witty performer.
