The UK plays a crucial role in supporting peace internationally. Today, we have 285 troops in the field, most of whom are protecting a political settlement in Cyprus. Others are working in complex conflict environments in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan. In total, there are over 120,000 peacekeepers from 124 countries serving in missions across the globe.

The International Day of UN Peacekeepers provides a rare opportunity to honour UN peacekeepers who have lost their lives in the cause of peace and to pay tribute to the professionalism, dedication and courage of those who have served and continue to serve.

Join members of the diplomatic community and other organisations to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph in remembrance of the 3,220 servicemen and women from the 122 participating nations who have been killed whilst serving as UN peacekeepers.

Now in its 13th year, the ceremony is set to be the largest national gathering to honour the work of peacekeepers worldwide.

Stop by the Cenotaph on Whitehall at 1300 and take a moment to give thanks to peacekeepers past and present. No registration required.
