Despite the grisly history of St George’s Day, London’s Borough Market is giving namesakes of the English patron saint something to smile about as it offers visitors called George, Georgina, Georgio or Georgie free sweet treats to celebrate this important date in the cultural calendar, whilst stocks last.
Between the standard opening hours of 10am and 5pm on Thursday 23rd April, visitors hoping to redeem the offer will have to bring proof of ID to the Information Office where they will be able to collect a bespoke St George’s Day cupcake created by artisan bakers and Borough Market traders Artisan Foods. Each individual cake will be iced and adorned with the St George’s Cross flag.
Namesakes will be encouraged to share pictures on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using the hashtags #ByGeorge and #StGeorgesDay for the chance to win a hamper of English goodies to share with friends and family.
