This exciting taster day tapestry workshop is suitable for those returning after studying on a previous class with the tutor and for complete beginners. Set in the gallery students will enjoy drawing inspiration from the latest exhibitions, whilst learning how to weave a tapestry using woollen threads in mixed colours. You will be able to play with subtle transitions in colour learning how to hatch yarns together and create a shape. If you would like to bring some ideas or a simple geometric design then you will have a chance to explore these.

Each student will work on a pre-warped tapestry frame supplied by the tutor and will be able to discuss their future learning opportunities and find out where to purchase yarns for further weaving.

Caron Penney has been producing tapestries for over 20 years and is a Master Tapestry Weaver. As well as working on high-profile commissions for the West Dean Tapestry Studio and her own Weftfaced Tapestry Workshop, Penney is a prolific exhibition-led weaver in her own right. Her most recent commission was with the British abstract artist Gillian Ayres and was shown at Southwark Cathedral with the Campaign for Wool. Penney now shares her experience of producing hand woven tapestry at a number of Colleges; museum’s and art galleries in the UK.

Participants need to bring a pen and document holder for further information. All other materials and refreshments are included.
