On 12th May The Forge plays host to a double bill of Czech musicians whose styles are quite unlike existing genres. Combining punk, jazz, rock and classical music, NTS Trio is a tight group playing music with wide appeal. The event will also see the performance of Xavier Baumaxa, the distinctive singer-songwriter, performer and composer who is a master of witty rhymes and wordplay.

NTS TRIO
The unconventional group NTS Trio is comprised of three members who come from differing musical backgrounds. Michal Nejtek, an innovative pianist, Petr Tichy, a jazz double bassist and Stepan Smetacek, a rock drummer, form an eclectic group, and they describe their music as a “combination of disco, free jazz, rock ‘n‘ roll
and improvisation.“ This is a band you do not want to miss.

XAVIER BAUMAXA
The singer-songwriter, poet and composer Baumaxa characterises himself as a „country bumpkin from Litvinov“. It is therefore not surprising that his music has a rather distinct Czech character. Xavier deals with life issues, both banal and serious, through a refined use of wordplay. In his lyrics there is really nothing sacred.

Xavier Baumaxa was born in Litvinov where he studied teaching and languages. As time went on, however, he decided to try his hand at musical self-expression. Nowadays, he primarily performs with a Ukrainian poet who goes by the pseudonym Em Rudenko.
