On Saturday 23rd May, The Artworks Elephant, a creative hub in London’s Elephant & Castle opens its shipping container Courtyard to EASELS ART MARKET, a new event that will showcase a variety of art styles and mediums from up to 10 independent artists each week.

The market aims to provide a hub for artists to exhibit, sell and network with other creatives – whilst providing an opportunity for art lovers to browse and discover the wealth of talent that exists within London’s art community.

At our launch event on 23rd May, ED GRAY, one of South London’s most collectable painters of contemporary London life will make a personal appearance and open the event at 11am. GRAY who’s often been described as a modern day Hogarth, previously taught art and design at St Thomas the Apostle College in Peckham, before becoming a professional painter in 2001.

On selected dates, EASELS ART MARKET will play host to live demonstrations and art performances. At our opening event, the Russian School figurative artist OKSANA LEADBITTER will paint live in the Courtyard and demonstrate her unique techniques and painting style. Oksana is also booked in to hold a series of painting and drawing workshops at The Artworks Elephant in the coming months.

Surrounding the market courtyard, THE ARTWORKS ELEPHANT is home to dozens of start-ups and creative businesses that are breathing vibrant new energy into the heart of the Elephant’s regeneration site. With several street food cafes and bars just stepping distance from the art stalls, it also makes for a great place to relax over a local brew coffee, a craft beer or a fresh cold pressed juice.

According to Azawala Art Co-Founder and market organiser Jos Brient - “South London has long been a secret hot spot for artists. Now Easels Art Market wants to give their work a more public platform where locals and visitors can discover, enjoy and purchase their creations from affordable pieces right through to that extra special once-in-a-lifetime buy.”
