What can we say. The South London Soul Train takes things up a notch with a Funked up Live Sunday Special featuring Multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, bandleader, and longtime musical director for James Brown's renowned backing unit the J.B.'s. The one & only Fred Wesley, full band Live in concert.

With ample pre and post concert DJ support handled by your host with the absolute most Jazzheadchronic. JHC Dropping funked up bombs of soul all eve long.

About Fred Wesley: As the longtime musical director for soul legend James Brown's renowned backing unit the J.B.'s, trombonist Fred Wesley was the world's most famous sideman, orchestrating the sinuous grooves and contributing the bold, surgically precise solos that defined the language of funk.

"I completed [Brown's] creations, I followed his blueprints," Wesley later said. "He would give me horn things to write, but sometimes maybe it would be incoherent musically and I would have to straighten it out, so to speak. When it came out of my brain, it would be a lot ofJames Brown's ideas and my organization." Wesley even wrote a handful of Brown hits including "Doin' It to Death" and "Papa Don't Take No Mess," and headlined several J.B.'s records including the classic Damn Right I Am Somebody and Breakin' Bread.

To say we are honoured and truly excited to have Fred Wesley, one of the original Godfathers of Funk, the man responsible for many of the classics songs and musical genres that we celebrate, listen and dance to today - perform live in Peckham is an understatement. Believe us when we say, this is one concert you're really truly not gonna wanna miss. For any reason! Damn :D

Event runs 7pm - 11pm with band on stage around 8:30pm. So plenty of time to come, enjoy and make it home nice and early, ready for what you gotta do on Monday.

Come get some
