From blue-blooded Royalty to body snatchers, anatomists to anaesthetists, physicians, pharmacists and Fellows to the founding fathers of the NHS. All are to be found through history and along the capital’s thoroughfares….

Presented with the Royal College of Physicians these weekly historical strolls explore the rich culture, practice, customs and cures of medicine past and present, starting with a tour of the College’s remarkable collections and grade 1 listed home on Regent’s Park.

Meet the towering individuals who have sought to heal the city of maladies from cholera to smallpox, dysentery to insanity, influenza to malaria. Along the way encounter some of the cures we have wisely dispensed with, tools of the trade that will bring a tear to the eye and some of the shadier figures from our surgical and medical heritage.

With ten tours on topics ranging from human sexuality to royalty, London’s plagues to Gin crazes and drinking epidemics, battlefield surgery to women and the healing professions, there is something for anyone with an interest in matters medical. To discover the subject of this week’s tour consult our website.

If you love London, in sickness and in health, these walks are for you.
