Love writing and stories but never know where to start? Have lots of ideas and a drawer full of unfinished drafts? Why not let the world see your words! Short stories are by no means the easy option but are a great place for a new writer to build their confidence and see their work in print. This class is suitable for creative writing beginners and intermediates who are looking for guidance, techniques and feedback.

The classes will cover:

What is a short story? As well as basics and techniques behind: Time, Grammatical tense, Characters, Narration, Paragraph structure, Description, Setting, Dialogue, Drafting, Editing and Getting published.
Advice for submitting work to competitions and publications as well as a list of handy websites, books and tools.

As well as teaching time, you can expect to give and receive weekly feedback with other class members in a workshop environment. You will then be given the opportunity to hand in a portfolio of up to 5000 words at the end of the course for detailed critique.

About the tutor: Sinead Nolan has a BA Honors in Creative Writing, an MA Newspaper Journalism and has five years experience feature writing for national newspapers in UK and Ireland. She has been shortlisted for national and international short story awards, her short stories have appeared in literary journals and she has attended many workshops and classes devoted to short story skills.
