ANNOUNCING! COMEDY@STUDIO189.

In July the Dead Parrots Society has teamed up with Studio189 to host a comedy extravaganza.

Studio189 is an amazing garden apartment in Kings Cross that is used to host creative and social events. Run by friends Fay & Sabina, their concept is based on bringing cultured people together in a beautiful and intimate residential setting where encounters are more likely to happen and lead to meaningful exchanges.

On Thursday 2 July we have four award-winning comedians to entertain you:

Viv Groskop.
Our MC for the night Viv is a writer, critic, broadcaster, stand-up comedian and literary events host.
Viv has a new solo stand-up show Say Sorry to the Lady coming to Edinburgh in 2015. She is the author of a stand-up meets mid-life crisis memoir I Laughed, I Cried: One Woman, 100 Days, The Mother of All Challenges (Phoenix). The book ranked No. 1 in Hot New Releases (comedy) on Amazon.co.uk in 2013.
Viv is artistic Director of the Independent Bath Literature Festival which celebrated its 20th anniversary in March 2015.
“Very funny.” Omid Djalili.

“Inventive and hilarious. My favourite new act.” Lucy Porter.

“The queen of funny. Hysterical. You have to see this woman.” Mary Portas.

David Mills.
David’s signature style merges Dave Allen and Kenneth Williams. He has been a solo performer for over ten years, first in San Francisco, then New York and now London. His work spans stand-up, cabaret and traditional theatre. In 2011 he won the New Act of the Year.
He was the sidekick on Scott Capurro's Position, the live comedy chat show with multiple sell-out runs in London and a 5-star run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

“A waspishly brilliant comic who, perched on a stool, looked and sounded like one of the Algonquin wits drinking cocktails in Manhattan.” Arthur Smith.

“His talent for whip cracking one-liners is audaciously thrilling.” Time Out.

“His succession of one-liners struck home like polished darts, and his languid, camp persona rang, like, totally true. Mills’ was a stealthily consummate performance, well deserving of victory.” The Stage.

Abi Roberts.
Abi Roberts and her big hair exploded onto the stand-up comedy scene in 2011. Abi plays weekend shows in comedy clubs across the UK, including The Stand, Jongleurs, Big Night Out, Baby Blue Comedy, Liverpool, Lee Hurst’s Backyard Comedy and Downstairs At the Kings Head. In 2013, she supported and opened for Michael McIntyre at The Bloomsbury Theatre.

As a cabaret act, Abi was a semi-finalist in the 2009 Funny Women competition. As a stand-up, she was a Finalist and Runner-Up in the Comedy Store's Costa Light Competition in 2011 and a Finalist and Runner-Up in the Harrogate Comedy Festival’s Comedian of The Year 2012.
Abi is also one of a handful of recipients of the prestigious Peter Ackerman Comedy Award, given for outstanding comedy performances by Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

"Raucous and incredibly funny” Daily Telegraph.

"...one of the Top 10 stand-ups to see, Abi Roberts is brilliant, funny and charming.” GQ Magazine.

"Dangerous and hilarious and the very opposite of consensus comedy...(Roberts) has raw but relatable originality and a preternatural comfort with herself onstage and is she is unstoppable…” Sarah Fisch, New Statesman.

Luke Capasso.
Luke Capasso is a storyteller and political satirist with the willingness to venture into the absurd. Luke approaches comedy head on and at full speed. Celebrating the humour that he finds most true to himself Capasso’s personal tales of triumph and utter defeat are decorated with sarcasm, embellishment or what may otherwise be known as lies. With his deadpan style, Capasso’s jokes and stories encompass the trials of life as a young father, his years in the military, love, the inevitable loss and his small town American roots.

In his first year of comedy Luke won the London Comedy Store’s Gong Show and was a finalist in the Laughing Horse New Act of Year, Amused Moose New Act of the Year.

“Fearless. He is phenomenal. A powerhouse….Brave and brutally funny.” Kate Copstick. The Scotsman.

“Equal parts terrifying and brilliant.” Rob Cureton. Orful Comics.

“Near the mark…tempered with a likeably gentle delivery…one to savour.” Sarah Richardson. Three Weeks.

Along with your comedy you get free pizza. There is a cash bar, and a special batch of organic cider made especially for Studio189 by Fay’s father, via his farm in Devon.

So come. Meet new friends. Chill out in the garden. Stroke Ginger the house cat. But most of all kick back, laugh and enjoy!
