The first International Afghan Film Festival in London will showcase the rich diversity of contemporary Afghan cinema. The Afghan film industry is re-emerging from a period of suppression. A new generation of energetic film-makers have started to produce and direct films which are both of high technical quality and appealing to audiences.
Until now, the UK has not regularly engaged with the Afghan Film scene. Afghan International Film Festival is being staged by Afghan Association Paiwand, a North West London refugee community organisation. It is put on with the support of the BFI Film Festival Fund, awarding funds from the National Lottery.
2015 signals the 1st year of the Afghan International Film Festival in London. There will be 3 days of films reflecting 5 categories: Afghan life, Animation, Historical, Female Director and Refugee Life.
Each event will include Q&A sessions with our panel of judges, made up of film makers, academics and experts.
