Well, this is a very special gig from two very special performers. Both Scottish born and bred and based North of the border, this saxophone and piano duo is without question world class. Multi-award winning Tommy Smith is widely regarded as one of the UK's leading jazz saxophonists with a well deserved international reputation as a player of immense talent and creativity. Something of a child prodigy I first heard Tommy in the late 80's at the old Club when he was just 14 years old, and he was clearly destined for great things even then. By the time he was 16 he had already recorded his first album, which won him a scholarship to Berklee Colege of Music in the US, making him one of the youngest UK scholars ever. Since that time he has recorded more than 26 albums as a leader and been on innumerable sessions and recordings. His fluent and powerful playing has been heard with some of the jazz world’s most respected performers, including the likes of Gary Burton, Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette, Kenny, Barron, Arild Andersen, John Scofield and Trilok Gurtu. An international recording artist, composer and arranger of extraordinary ability, Tommy is an iconic figure on the Scottish jazz scene. The founder and current director of The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra (SNJO), which comprises some of the finest players in Scotland, Tommy is also an active educator, being also the founder/director of The Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra and is current Artistic Director of the first ever full-time jazz course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He also holds three honorary doctorates from Heriot-Watt, Glasgow Caledonian & Edinburgh Universities and a Professorship from the RCS. His album, KARMA, won him his seventh (yes, that's 7th) Scottish Jazz Award for album of the year in 2012. Brian Kellock is one of Scotland's great jazz pianists. Performing in a style described as "a cross between Oscar Peterson and Monty Alexander" Brian includes work with the likes of Red Rodney, Sheila Jordan, Art Farmer, Charlie Rouse, Bill Watrous, Scott Hamilton, Stanley Turrentine and Herb Geller on an impressive cv. Named as one of the "Top 10 young jazz pianists in the world" by Classic CD in 2000 he has been the pianist with Australian trumpet/sax player James Morrison's band for the last 20 years as well as establishing a well deserved reputation with his own piano trio. Tonight sees the coming together of these two great players in what is now a well-established duo, performing wonderful interpretations of carefully chosen jazz standards. From “Moonlight in Vermont” and “Skylark” through to “Surrey With a Fringe On Top” and “You Must Believe In Spring” these two great players perform a selection of classic standards with characteristic verve, humour and unique musical insight. A rare opportunity South of the Border to hear this great duo, which now has three albums to its name as well as international appearances at the likes of the Montreal Jazz Festival, so booking is definitely advised.

“…a scintillating partnership...dazzling, inventive and subtly captivating” The Scotsman;
"Smith/Kellock duo… music-lovers of all persuasions will recognise its consummate class" Guardian
