Saxophonist Peter Wareham is one of the most influential and inventive players on the scene. His band Acoustic Ladyland and Seb Rochford’s Polar Bear with whom he also performs have had an explosive impact with their genre-defying, crossover styles, becoming widely popular amongst both jazz and mainstream audiences and critics. His latest project, Melt Yourself Down also featuring Sons of Kemet saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings is equally formidable, with a sound described by Wareham as “Nubian-inspired party-punk music”. He has performed around the world, from the Blue Note in New York to Ronnie’s in London, adding festival appearances and multi-award wins to his CV on the way. Tonight Pete will be bringing his Jazz Standards trio project to the Club, performing in a more straight ahead style in the now classic piano-less trio format of sax, bass and drums. Although perhaps better known these days as a “crossover” artist, Pete is also a fabulous straight-ahead player and this is sure to be a very special night. Also featured will be two of the UK’s finest and most versatile musicians, Ben Hazleton on bass and Tom Skinner on drums. A remarkable gig from some of the great trailblazers of contemporary UK jazz.

“forceful improvisations bring drama to every track” LondonJazz News;
“Acoustic Ladyland and Polar Bear have been responsible for opening the floodgates for a new wave of bands to fearlessly push the boundaries of jazz” Jazzwise
