From 5th August, the award-winning resident theatre company, Gods and Monsters Theatre presents an action-packed season every Wednesday to Sunday until 30th August. This season will feature new takes on classical texts - Captain Show-Off!, an adaptation of the Roman comedies of Plautus by Phil Willmott…a joyous family show that brings to life a bustling Roman town, complete with sing-a-longs and slapstick. As the evening draws in, audiences will be treated to the powerful Women of Troy, adapted from the Greek tragedies of Euripides by Lisa Kuma, whose adaptation tells the tale of the courageous women on opposing sides of the Trojan War.
Post-show chats with the Company: 13, 20 & 27 August.

Captain Showoff!
18:00 – 19:30
Adapted from the Roman comedies of Plautus by Phil Willmott, with original music by Theo Holloway.

This joyous family show invites you to a bustling Roman town as everyone anticipates the return from war of the big-headed soldier, Milos Colossus. But if he's expecting everything to be as it was when he left for battle he's in for a shock. Expect audience participation, sing-a-longs, mistaken identities and slapstick galore as a colourful cast of clever slaves, daring lovers and cunning tricksters take full advantage of the chaos that peace brings.

Hecuba and The Trojan Women
20:00 – 21:30
Adapted from the Greek tragedies of Euripides by Lisa Kuma

As the skies darken so does our story. In some of the most powerful drama ever written, Euripides spins gripping tales of the once mighty Queen Hecuba and her daughters as they face the horrors of defeat, slavery and the fall of Troy. This new adaptation by Lisa Kuma resonates powerfully, as the brutal use of women as collateral damage in war remains an urgent issue.
