Since 1965, Contact the Elderly has been transforming the lives of lonely older people with the simple concept of tea, cake and conversation at Sunday tea parties.

To commemorate their 50th anniversary they are holding a Golden Jubilee Concert at St Paul’s Cathedral, London, on 29 October 2015 at 7pm.

Maureen Lipman will attend the evening to perform a special reading as choral and orchestral forces join together under the famous dome of St Paul’s to mark 50 years of relieving loneliness and social isolation. Some of London’s most talented young musicians from The London Choral Sinfonia will be directed by esteemed conductor Michael Waldron for unique performances of classical greats.

The evening's programme includes pieces from Sound of Music (Hammerstein), Company (Sondheim), Serenade for Strings (Tchaikovsky), Ave Verum (Mozart) and works by Handel, Parry and Whitacre. There will also be an opportunity for everyone to sing along together before the end of the concert, a way of recreating the joyous atmosphere of Contact the Elderly tea parties.

The event is suitable for all, and we welcome all ages, so please extend the invitation to your friends, family, neighbours and colleagues.

Concert ticket prices start from £15 and can be purchased online or through the Barbican box office 020 7638 8891. For every £1 raised through ticket sales, 90p goes directly back to the Contact the Elderly's service.
