Following over a decade of successful Chinese music summer schools, the London Youlan Qin Society (LYQS) will focus its 2015 course on the guqin (7-strings) and guzheng (21-strings) zithers. The guqin with its refined and other-worldly tones is the quintessential instrument of the Chinese literati, and mastery of this instrument along with chess, calligraphy, and ink-painting has historically been the mark of scholarly sophistication. The guzheng (21 string zither) has a history of over 2,000 years and is an expressive and colourful instrument which is widely loved by both Chinese and Western people. The summer school this year will be held at the new grand venue – China Exchange in London’s Chinatown and offers a rare opportunity for anyone interested in learning and understanding more about traditional Chinese music and instruments in the UK. Don’t miss it!

The course will combine lectures, practice, seminars and will finish with an end of course demonstration and a concert by renowned musicians. It is open to student of all levels of experience.
