The National Trust’s #lovethecoast campaign is inspiring Londoners to embrace the great British coast with a full sensory coastal experience.

The coast is coming to London thanks to a 4D experience by the National Trust. A giant shell will be washing up at South Bank’s Observation Point, allowing members of the public the opportunity to see, smell, hear and taste the sea this summer without leaving the city.

Senses will be triggered inside the shell by the aromas of salty sea air, caves, rock pools, the sounds of the waves and seagulls, as well as magical interior lighting. With research showing that despite one in five Brits dreaming of escaping to the coast, the number of people visiting the coast has dropped by 20% in the last decade, the National Trust is bringing the great British coast to the city to help Londoners reconnect to the magical experiences the seaside can offer.

Over the summer, the Trust is also inviting members of the public to help one of Britain’s most celebrated poets, Dr John Cooper Clarke, complete the ‘Nation’s Ode to the Coast’ – a poem reminding the people of the UK of just what the coast can offer. Poem contributions can take the form of words, pictures, social media posts or even sounds, with submissions made using #lovethecoast.

An interactive coastal photobooth will also be on hand to capture the experience. This free interactive encounter is suitable for all ages and is set to be a really fun family experience.
