London Farms and Gardens Show

London’s fantastic community farms and gardens are putting on a show for the public!

One of a kind, the 17th City Harvest Festival, featuring greens, gherkins, goats and guinea pigs galore, will take place on September 19th 2015.

London’s City Harvest Festival features animals and produce not from the countryside, but from unexpected parts of the inner-city. It is a celebration of the dedication of talented farmers and gardeners from across London, who work so hard in those much-loved green spaces.

Animals and produce from a wide range of London’s 16 city farms and more than 100 community gardens will be showcased at the event. The show expects to welcome more than 2000 visitors to this unique festival, who may see rare breed Golden Guernsey goats from Newham, honey from Lambeth, pumpkins from Kentish Town, Southdown sheep from Islington, Bengali kerala from Shoreditch, and blackcurrants from White City.

The festival takes place in 30 acres of gorgeous grounds at Capel Manor in Enfield and is a great family day out. Ducks, geese, rabbits, ponies and livestock compete for the Best in Show, while there is a dazzling array of both familiar and exotic fruit and vegetables in a variety of produce competitions, all sourced from London farms and gardens.

Catherine Miller, show facilitator for London Farms and Gardens, said: “Visitors will be amazed at the variety of produce grown at London's community projects and at all the different animals kept. At this popular family show, many of the young people who take part in the Festival volunteer their free time to help nurture plants and animals and create something of benefit to their communities. ”

The day includes a contest for the biggest pumpkin, the most unusual looking fruit or vegetable and best mini-farm, and concludes with a fiercely competitive tug of war!

Talented blacksmiths, potters and woodworkers will be demonstrating their crafts, and there will be plenty to do for kids in the “Have a Go” area.

Also featuring in 2015 is “A Taste of Autumn” where visitors can sample and use some unusual vegetables, including Capel’s crop of chillies.
