House music originated in Chicago in the early 1980s as a direct descendant of disco, with the sadly recently deceased "Godfather of House" Frankie Knuckles at the helm with his Chicago residency at The Warehouse where House music got it's name. House was a deeper, rawer dancefloor soundtrack born from a mix of disco classics, synth disco by the likes of Georgio Moroder, and English, European electro pop from bands like Depeche Mode. Frankie alongside friend and NY's Pardaise Garage resident Larry Levan learnt his art from David Mancuso whose dance parties at The Loft in 70's New York showed them the importance of sound, lighting, production and dj techniques.

Jessie Saunders is cited as making the first house record in 1984 but it wasn't until the following year when records like Jamie Principle's 'Waiting On Your Angel' came along that the house music production scene started to thrive.

Around this time Ron Hardy started his Chicago party Muzic Box playing rawer, harder, wilder rhythm tracks that soon inspired Acid House. Ron Hardy was the inspiration for many of the big djs and producers that went on to make House Music global and Muzic Box became the test ground for many great U.S House records.

Other important names in the development of early House Music which Memory Box will be celebrating include Steve Silk Hurley, Larry Heard (Mr. Fingers), Robert Owens, Dj Pierre, Phuture, Adonis, Marshall Jefferson and Farley "Jackmaster" Funk who made the first international House hit "Love Can't Turn Around".

Plus Lil Louis, Derrick Carter, Cajmere, Green Velvet, Tyree Cooper, Fast Eddie, Steve Poindexter, Armando, Chez Damier, Robert Clivilles and David Cole, David Morales, MAW, Danny Tenaglia, Francois K, Kerri Chandler, Junior Vasquez, Inner City, Kevin Saunderson, Inner City, MK and Carl Craig.

It is house music we have to thank. House Music all night long. House music all night long.
