Battersea’s Victorian Day

On Saturday 3 October Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will be transformed back to Victorian times, to pay homage to its visionary founder Mary Tealby. Experience life as it was for residents of the Home over 150 years ago through the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Battersea’s Victorian Day.

Victorian characters will give a fascinating insight into life for the dogs arriving at the ‘Temporary Home for Lost and Starving Dogs’, as it was then known. Enjoy a tour of our kennels and cattery, gain a glimpse into life as a stray dog on the streets in the 1860s and marvel at our museum of wonder. Have your photograph taken with Queen Victoria; enjoy our accordion playing musician and try your luck at some of the games from yester year.

Feeling peckish? A hearty plate of pie and mash will be available at lunch time; you’ll find a selection of ‘old favourites’ at our sweet shop stand and there will be a contest to find the best victoria sponge, whilst visitors will get piece of the action choosing from a range of our tempting treats to enjoy for themselves.
