An alumnus of both the Royal Academy of Music and Berklee College, Boston (USA), Martin Shaw is widely regarded as one of the finest jazz trumpet players in Europe. A well established and highly regarded studio and touring musician, his powerful yet wonderfully fluent playing has been heard with the likes of Sting, Natalie Cole, John Dankworth and Cleo Laine and he is a first call for numerous high profile musicians both in the UK and abroad. A featured soloist with the BBC Big Band his melodic improvisations and warm, fluid sound are universally admired and respected. Tonight will be a rare chance to hear Martin's fabulous jazz quintet with its two horn front line which also features the wonderful Steve Main on sax and the highly respected Gareth Williams (Jerry Bergonzi, Claire Martin) on piano. The rhythm section is completed by two of the most experienced players on the scene, Andy Cleyndert (Stan Tracey, Ronnie Scott) bass and Matt Home (Scott Hamilton) on drums. The music is beautiful, straight-ahead jazz performed by some of the best musicians around and a joy to hear.
