The lecture will be given by Professor Dieter Helm, an economist specialising in utilities, infrastructure, regulation and the environment and author of the provocative book The Carbon Crunch.

His IET lecture will look at the new and emerging features of the energy landscape and suggest how EU and UK policy will need to change as a result – potentially having a huge impact on the UK Government’s Energy Market policy and key components of the EU’s Energy Union. In addition, Professor Helm will look at the role of new technology and energy trends and suggest the implications for the structure and competitiveness of major energy companies.

Naomi Climer, IET President-elect, said: “The IET prides itself on giving a platform to some of the world’s most knowledgeable and innovative speakers from the fields of engineering and science. Professor Helm is no exception and his lecture will offer real insight for delegates into the fast-changing world of energy.

“What’s more, this year’s delegates will be given an even greater treat, as they will be some of the first to experience the IET’s prestigious Savoy Place headquarters in London as it reopens following an exciting two-year refurbishment. All of our speakers will be giving their lectures from state of the art lecture theatres which have played host to some of the greatest global minds for over 125 years.”
