The Century will explore the 100 years of history from 1900 - Y2K, through an exhilarating two-part multi-sensory event, taking culture and arts lovers back in time to experience the past like never before. As it progresses The Century will re-animate some the most exciting ideas and scenes of each era via talks, music, drink, literature and even the smells that defined them. Guests will be invited to recreate the rhythm of the society-shocking production of 1913's Rite of Spring with celebrated composer Mark Bowden, experience stories of 1940s film noir through cocktails with The Times drinks writer Alice Lascelles, and learn about 1970s L.A. counter culture with John Higgs, author of Stranger Than We Can Imagine: Making Sense of the 20th Century. The event takes place in the beautiful mid-century styled setting of The Apartment at The Hoxton, Shoreditch, 10am-5pm Saturday 7th and 14th of November. Tickets are available for each decade or as a package. For more information & tickets visit salon-london.com

With the clock ticking, the decade will progress every hour throughout the day and upon entering each era, ticket holders will be taken through a sensory time machine. Expect to be inspired by the sight and sounds of the literature and music that influenced generations, have tastebuds tantalised by the food & drink that they consumed and olfactories allured by the smells of the perfumes that they wore.
Talks covering an eclectic range of subjects will be hosted by authors, experts and historians in the know, including the Science Museum's Inventor in Residence, Mark Champkins, broadcaster and writer of Shop Girls, Dr Pam Cox, renowned Ocean Liner expert and author of Art Deco goes to Sea, Tony Cooke, and many more. Attendees can discuss Belle Epoque ideas from the turn of the century over breakfast, discover how 1930s cruise ships fashioned high society living on sea, and find out why the London restaurant became the main stage for dating and deal-making in the 1980s.
