The photographic image has an extraordinary presence in these early years of the twenty-first century. Some say it is the language of the twenty-first century. Since its invention it has captured people’s imagination and you could say that today it matters as never before. Twenty London photographers show how Photography Matters to each of them in an exhibition of their work covering the two floors of the popular Espacio Gallery in Shoreditch. The Show is part of east London’s international photography festival; Photomonth 2015.

The photographers are all members of the Central London Group of London Independent Photography and the exhibition was born out of their regular monthly gatherings where they present new work for discussion. The work on show in response to the subject, Photography Matters, is as varied as there are members in the group. Some focus on philosophical matters, others on political ones; some make public observations, others reveal private glimpses; but each explores the ways in which photography matters to her or him.

Participating photographers: Hady Bayoumi, Héloïse Bergman, Dorota Boisot, Lesley Bruce, Chris Burrows, Mark Chase Brown, Jan Cylwik, Cynthia D’Souza, Judith Jones, Hugh Look, Peter Luck, Rashida Mangera, Peter Nahum, Ingrid Newton, Jim Paterson, Sue Roche, Krystina Stimakovits, Edith Templeton, James Thorp, Geoff Titley
