The Bookshop Band will be flooding the St Bride Foundation halls with their literary inspired music on Tuesday 26 January.
Formed in September 2010, The Bookshop Band write songs inspired by books, and play them in bookshops. They have written songs inspired by a wide spectrum of books including Hilary Mantel’s Bringing Up the Bodies, John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, Eleanor Catton’s The Luminaries, Patrick Ness’s A Monster Calls and Sarah Waters’ The Paying Guest. They have been featured on 6Music, the Today programme, Front Row, BBC 1 News and the Guardian amongst others.
Beth Porter songwriter, cellist and singer lives in Bristol. She plays as a cellist for a number of musicians, including Eliza Carthy, as well as her own band Beth Porter and the Availables, and string quartet The Stringbeans, with whom she also recorded for the BAFTA winning The Eagleman Stag.
Ben Please songwriter, guitarist and singer lives in Bath. He is part of indie-folk band Urusen, as well as composing music for film and animation, including work on the BAFTA winning animation The Eagleman Stag. He is co-founder of the Bath arts/music/poetry monthly The Bath Burp, has a linocut studio, and often works as a filmmaker in East Africa.
