The 606 Club is excited to present as part of our LJF programme this quartet of highly talented musicians who are widely considered to be one of the leading lights of the "nu-soul"/electro groove genre. Currently making a significant impact on the UK music scene their original and imaginative compositions fuse jazz, soul, trip hop and electronic music to create a truly unique musical soundscape. Hearing the band live is a remarkable experience and they have been dazzling audiences from their hometown Cardiff to mainland Europe in both Clubs and high profile festivals, including the likes of Umea Jazz Fest and Love Supreme. Their critically-acclaimed eponymous debut album, released on Edition records in February last year, brilliantly captures the impact of their live gigs, BuzzMag calling it a "stunning first album" and AllAboutJazz commenting “It’s beautiful, imaginative and ambitious". Their latest EP, “Into the Distance” continues this lush aural trajectory, evoking comparisons to iconic groups such as Portishead, Soul II Soul and Massive Attack. Keyboard player Dave Stapleton crafts sumptuous melodies and strikes the perfect balance between the experimental and the band’s deep soul origins, Dionne Bennett provides both lead & vocal harmonies for the band with a presence and intensity that few others could match, marking her out as a genuine star of the future. Completing the line-up is the multi instrumentalist Deri Roberts on electronics, trombone and saxophone and Elliot Bennett on drums and drum programming. A remarkable gig from some exceptional musicians "their performance was polished and expectations were surpassed." AllAboutJazz; "a marvellous unity of conception that is admirably fulfilled."
