Ovation: Adrian Sherwood, Ishan Sound

'Pioneer' is a word that's bandied around all too readily these days, but if there's one artist who is genuinely deserving of the term, it's UK producer, label founder and innovator Adrian Sherwood.

With a career spanning over 30 years, Sherwood's contribution to the contemporary UK music scene is considerable. In 1981 he founded On-U Sound, the dub label whose influence and relevance still resonates today, as evidenced by At The Controls, a new compilation series chronicling the work of Sherwood as he explores post-punk, industrial, reggae and dub music sounds. Volume 1: 1979 - 1984 was released earlier this year.

By the mid-80s, Sherwood was among the most visible producers and remixers, working on tracks for artists as varied as Depeche Mode, Einsturzende Neubauten, and Simply Red, Cabaret Voltaire and Nine Inch Nails, and his unique approach to deconstructing tracks was one of the early forms of remixing.

Today, he continues to innovate and experiment through releases such as his latest LP, Late Night Endless, a collaboration with fellow dubstep pioneer Pinch. Expect a kaleidoscopic live multitrack dub mix from this true innovator, in addition to what will be the first ever London performance of the Sherwood At The Controls 1979 - 1984 set.

He's joined by Bristol dubplate maestro Ishan Sound, one of the founding members of the Young Echo collective. Capable of effortlessly blending rare dub, reggae and 2-step, Ishan's soundsystem-conscious stylings have seen releases on Tectonic Records, Ras Addis and Peng Sound.
