Buster Keaton's final great film, The Cameraman (1928), is famous for his unique blend of slapstick comedy, poignant exploits and stuntman prowess, performed without any special effects, body doubles or CGIs. It will be shown on a big screen in the atmospheric, candlelit surroundings of St John's Church, Notting Hill, accompanied by the church's grand, recently restored organ. This organ, now in excellent condition and one of the best examples in London, provides a reverberating wall of sound, powerfully filling the church all around you. Beyond the bombast, it can also provide delicate accompaniment with a varied acoustic pallet, an early-day synthesiser. All the pipes are in well-tuned, perfect condition. This will be played by Donald MacKenzie, silent-film accompanist expert and resident organist at the Odeon Leicester Square. This is the 5th film he has accompanied at the St John's Notting Hill, all previous of which have sold out. Get your ticket in advance and come along for a rare showing of this classic silent film, considered one of the finest in the silent catalogue. Buy a ticket for your friend and take them to something different with this unique cinematic experience.
