Funny Girl at Savoy Theatre

Funny Girl, the classic bittersweet musical drama lands at the Savoy Theatre in April for a strictly limited season starring incredibly talented leading lady Sheridan Smith.

Originally opening in 1964, Funny Girl is a true classic. Based on the semi-autobiographical book by Isobel Lennart, both the Musical and the book portray the life of Fanny Brice, a Musical star from the Lower East Side of New York and her doomed relationship with her manager Nick Arnstein.

Opening at the Savoy Theatre, this is the first West End revival of Jule Styne and Bob Merrill classic, and features the timeless songs "People", "You Are Woman, I Am Man" and "Don't Rain on My Parade".

With the original Broadway production in 1964, Funny Girl quickly became synonymous with its original star Barbra Streisand who went on to reprise her role in the successful film version. Her performance won her the Oscar for Best Actress.

The Funny Girl Savoy revival will star Sheridan Smith, who has already been met with high praise. Following on from showing in the Menier Chocolate Factory, The Savoy Theatre production exhibits class and Sheridan Smith is a joy to watch and makes Streisand's role her own.
