As part of the Appalachian 100 series at Cecil Sharp House, ‘Sharp's Appalachian Harvest’ tells the epic story of the trips made a hundred years ago by Cecil Sharp and Maud Karpeles into the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, portrayed in music, narrative and image by leading ballad singer, musician and researcher Brian Peters.

The two songhunters conquered hostile terrain, severe sickness and personal discomfort to seek out the remote mountain communities where descendents of 18th century British migrants kept alive the old songs. Their collection of over sixteen hundred pieces is one of the greatest ever made. Brian Peters sings some of the best of the ballads, reads fascinating excerpts from the collectors’ diaries, and presents Sharp’s evocative photographs of the mountain people, in this multi-media show.

The performance starts at 7.30pm.

Programmed by the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
