A weekend at the Royal Gunpowder Mills celebrating our industrial past with a special spotlight on the Victorian and Edwardian steam traction engine builders. A thoroughly family day out, there will be a ‘Thomas’ land train, a 7 ¼” railway ride and organs too, plus Steam-themed activities, Mad Lab and exhibitions, Engines are coming from all over Essex and further afield from Oxfordshire to Ramsgate. See up close the historic 112 year old Clayton & Shuttleworth’s steam traction engine ’Peggy’. Presenting traction engines, road locomotives, road rollers and wagons, there will be an opportunity for visitors to learn more about how our steam heritage is being kept alive in the twenty-first century and to discover how the drivers manage the coal and water whilst driving their steam engines around the Royal Gunpowder Mills’ road circuit. Highly recommended great day out.
