Lessons learned in this Workshop focus on general principles of sound production and be relevant to users of most recording or editing systems, they will go far beyond one specific purpose.

Workshop Topics Include:
- The recording environment and how to make best of it.
- Avoiding common sound problems (some will surprise you).
- Jargon busting and explanation.
- Overview of essential and ideal equipment (we are mindful that many productions will be made on a budget).
- Choosing an editing / recording system to best suit you.
- Monitoring sound (by ear and with meters).
- Discussion of different microphones, best placement and techniques (a selection will be available on the day to try).
- Commonly used production tools (covering process and principles).

The limited number of "Early Bird" tickets cost for the day is £120 and available until midnight Monday May 9th at which time the price will increase to £150.

Radio producers, journalists, short film makers, documentary makers would all benefit from the skills and knowledge shared. Nonetheless, we assume making a pro sounding podcast will, for most students, be the main interest in the first instance.

Know this, your content can be first rate but if it sounds awful then you will lose your audience. That's a simple reality.

As an added extra after the main class has ended, students will be invited to join us for drinks in a nearby pub where additional questions may be asked in a more relaxed setting. Former BBC journalist, Alfie Noakes, will be present to offer advice on booking interviews and applying good interview techniques, should this be your interest.

The day covers much technical territory yet is delivered by a seasoned industry pro who will present matters in lay terms.

A major objective of the workshop is to to ensure that you can employ understandable and useable principles and processes to your audio projects.

Previous experience in sound recording is not a requirement at all, this Workshop is here to help you to hit the ground running and open the world of sound recording for you. With this said, those with some experience will benefit from learning on a more advanced.
